Band
Recordings
Q. How long does it
take to set up and what does it cost?
A. Typical
setup is 2 to 3 hours and is billed at $45 per hour (less if you buy a package
deal).
Q.
Do we all play in the same room?
A. In
most cases drums, bass, guitars, and keyboards will all be in the same room. We
do this so all the musicians can make eye contact and groove together. This does
not mean the guitar amps, bass amps and keyboard amps are all together in the
same room. Bass and keyboards are most often recorded direct. Guitar amps, bass
amps and keyboard amps can be put in isolation booths leaving only the drum
microphones in the main studio room. We
do this to provide maximum isolation between instruments to aid in the mixing
process.
Q.
Do we do vocals at the same time?
A.
Yes and No. In most cases we
record a scratch “rough” vocal during tracking to help the band have the
feel of the music. It is best to
record lead and backing vocals by themselves so we can concentrate on the best
possible performance.
Q.
When are lead instrument parts recorded?
A. Lead
instruments are best done as over dubs after the basic tracks have been laid
down, but if your lead parts are well integrated into your music we can record
them during tracking.
Q.
What is the difference between a demo and the real thing?
A.
The final product is only as good as you make it. The biggest difference
between a demo and the real thing is how well the band plays together and knows
their parts. Other differences all
relate to money. World-class recordings take more setup and listening time to
ensure perfection. A demo mix may take 1 to 2 hrs. per song, whereas a
world-class mix will take 8 to 12 hrs. You can’t rush fine art!
All that being said, we have had many artists use their demos as final
product because of the high quality Paradoxx Sound achieves.
Q.
Can I record some tracks in my home studio to save money?
A. Yes.
Paradoxx Sound can supply a rough mix on two tracks of an ADAT tape that
you can add to in your home studio, or we can supply WAV files on CDR’S you
can use with your computer based studio. You can also rent a portable ADAT
system if you don’t have a home studio.
Q. Can we visit
Paradoxx Sound before we record?
A. Yes, but
please call and make an appointment .
Q.
What do I get when it’s done?
A. All demos
are mixed to CDR as your final product.
Q.
Can I get more than one CDR and how much will it cost?
A. Paradoxx
Sound can produce up to 25 CD’S at a cost of $5.00 each. Call for larger
quantity.
Q.
Whom can I go to for cover art?
A. We can
recommend artists.

Q.
How much does it cost?
A. One or two
songs cost $137. Four songs can be done for $227.
Q.
Can you take the vocal off of a production CD so I can sing to it?
A. No. Paradoxx
Sound can’t remove the vocal, and that process leaves you with poor quality
music to sing to. It is also
illegal.
Q.
Can I use music from a cassette tape?
A. Yes. The
only problem is the tape hiss and poorer quality than CD.
If the music is only available on tape we can remove the noise, but this
will add as much as $100 to the cost of your project.
Q.
What if I make a small mistake? Do I have to sing the whole song again?
A. No. We can
punch in small parts to fix those little things. We can also record more than
one take and edit them together to achieve the best final result.
Q.
What if my pitch is a little off? Can you fix it?
A. Yes. We use
a TC Electronics Intonator to correct small pitch problems.
Q. Can I do my own
back up vocals?
A. Yes, we can
record as many tracks as you like.
Q.
Can you electronically add harmony parts to my vocals?
A. Yes, we have
3 different ways to add electronic harmony.
Q.
What do I get when it’s done?
A. All demos
are mixed to CDR as your final product.
Q.
Can I get more than one CDR and how much will it cost?
A. Paradoxx
Sound can produce up to 25 CD’S at a cost of $5.00 each. Call for larger
quantities.
Q.
Whom can I go to for cover art.
A. We can
recommend artists.
Q. Where do
I find Karaoke CDs?
A. Karaoke Unlimited at (661) 255-8100.

Q.
Can you make beats for my songs?
A. Yes we can. We have
Acid Pro, which is a loop-based program that can produce many parts for your
music production. We also have drum machines and samplers to provide other
creative possibilities.
Q.
How much will it cost for you to do my beats?
A. It can take
from 1 to 10 hours per song or more depending on if you know what you want. It
is always more cost effective to have your beats ready when you come in to
record your rap.
Q.
Can you sample things from old recordings to put in my songs?
A. Yes, but you
are responsible for all the copy right stuff.
Q.
Can you produce the copy for my commercials?
A. Yes, we work
with some great writers.
Q.
Can you provide the talent for my voice-overs?
A. Yes, but you
can also provide your own.
Q.
Do you have music for my production?
A. Yes, we can
produce original music using Acid Pro loop based music production software.
We also have a library of ready to go music beds for your commercial.
Q. Why are some
commercials not as loud as others are?
A. The last step in
producing a commercial is mastering which adjusts the level to be up to
today’s standards. This step is frequently skipped in low budget productions.
Q.
What do I get when it’s done?
A. All
commercials are mixed to CDR as your final product, but we can also provide DAT
tape as well as WAV files and other formats.
I
want to put my old LPs on to CD’s
Q. How much will it
cost?
A. Straight transfer
without any processing is $45 to $60 per LP.
Q.
Can you take the noise out?
A. Yes, there are three
processes: de-click, de-crackle and de-noise. Each process can take 1 to 2 hrs.
so a fully restored LP could cost $250 to $500.
Q.
Is there a discount for quantity?
A. No, this process takes
a lot of hours and there are no short cuts.
Q.
How many LPs can you put on a CD?
A. Maximum CD
time is 80 minutes.
