Paradoxx Sound can
produce one-off CD’s from your DAT tape, cassette tape, ADAT tape and other CD’s
as well as other sources in two different ways.
The first is to record directly
from your source material to our Studer CD recorder. This method is the quickest
way, but is not recommended if you will be reproducing the CD. It is just like
recording a cassette on your home stereo; the spacing between songs will not be
exact and the songs will not start exactly when you start or advance tracks.
However, this method carries the lowest cost.
The second method is to record
all source material into our Sadie digital audio workstation where we can trim
the start and end of each song and arrange your songs in any order. This process
is the best way to make master CD’s, and is recommended if you want to produce
many copies.
There are special considerations
when recording from DAT tape, or other digital sources such as sample rates. The
sample rate for CD’s is 44,100 kHz. If your DAT tape is recorded at 48,000
kHz, the material will need a sample rate conversion. Using the Studer method,
we will use an inline sample rate converter at a slight up charge. The sample
rate conversion process in our Sadie system is of a much higher quality and
takes longer, so the price is higher, but the quality is worth it! The other
consideration is the maximum signal level. Some DAT machines don’t have good
meters, so your tape levels may be too high and you won't know it. Using the
Studer method, the "overs" will be copied to the CD. With the Sadie
method we can insert a limiter to stop the "overs" from going on the
CD, but this also will add to the cost.
Other than sample rate conversion
and limiting, if your source material needs level adjustments, EQ or other
changes, then your project becomes a mastering job. See our mastering services
for more information.
Pricing for 1 off CDs depends
on how much work we need to do. Transferring 3-4 songs from DAT tape to CD using
the Studer method will cost approximately $30. Using out Sadie system, the cost
will be approximately $60. Sample rate conversion or limiting will add $10 to
$30 each to the cost. Please call for a price quotation (661) 273-6435.
